Due to the ongoing restrictions due to Covid-19 this month’s competition (theme: images of people) was held virtually.

First place was taken by Ian Smith’s ‘Myanmar Musician’, a really well taken shot of a musician playing a saung, or Myanmar harp.

Laura Richardson’s ‘Pretty Little Thing 2’ took second place. The original Pretty Little Thing was winner of our Printed Image of the Year competition in 2019.

‘Strange Fashion’ by Steve Memmott came third. If you[‘re wondering what the model, Natasha, has around her head, it’s actually the skirt she’s wearing!

In the colour competition first place was taken by Marie Rollitt’s industrious gannet.

Second place went to Paul Beckett’s luscious image of an agapantha flower breaking out.

David Barnett’s perfectly focussed picture of a large red damselfly (Pyrrhosoma Nymphula) took third place.

Third place was shared by Jill Davies’ portraits and Ian Smith’s beautiful Mallorcan sunset.

March saw the Shoes and/or Feet projected image competition, before the club choose to go begin social distancing.

First place went to Ian Smith’s basket weaver.

Second place went to Jill Davies’s ethereal shot of a ballerina.

It was a good competition for Jill, with her shot of a newborn’s feet taking third place jointly with Pam Fisher’s image inspired by a recent speaker.

Our first projected image competition of 2020 had the theme of ‘Through the window or door’. 

In the colour competition first place was shared by Nick Wheat’s train, and Laura Richardson’s chickens.

It was a good month for Nick, with his image of a skeleton driver also coming third.

The monochrome competition was a very close run. First place was shared between David Barnett’s image of a pig and Nick Wheat’s BBC outside broadcast image.

Third place was shared by Darren Worthy’s image through the window of a derelict pub, and Laura Richardson’s nightshot of a pub in York.

2020’s photographer of the year competition began with the annual AGW Open projected image competition.

First place went to Dave McLeavy’s wintry scene.

Second place was shared by Laura Richardson’s low key image of an orangutan and Ian Smith’s image of a Tibetan nun.
