There were competitions in quick succession in October, with the print ‘texture and/or patterns’ competition following hot on the heals of the image of the year competition.

Richard Rathbone  took 1st place in the monochrome competition with his striking image of the side of a building.

Derek Holmes’s almost abstract image of the grain in a piece of wood shared 2nd with Doug Veale’s reflections.

Darren Worthy took 1st place with his back lit image showing off the veins in a leaf.

Second place was taken by Steve Murphy’s image of reflections at Salford Quay.

It was very close for third place, with Richard Rathbone’s leaves, Steve Murphy’s second image and Mike Gibbons’s mussels all scoring the same.

The club welcomed former member  Charles Coldwell on October 8th to judge the entries in the Photographer of the Year competition.

Charles commented on the quality of all of the entries and told the club that it had been very difficult to decide on the winning images.

In the projected Photographer of the Year competition the results were as follows.

Second: Splash landing, by Steve Oxley

Third: Waiting for a catch, by Jill Davies

After a break form the summer, we got back into the swing on competitions with our earthscapes projected competiton.

Paul Beckett took 1st place with his classic lake scene.

Jill Davies came 2nd with her atmospheric shot of sunset through a ruin.

Third place was won jointly by Tony Godwin’s night shot of Brugge and Amanda Keeling’s peaceful seaside image.

Another good result for new member Steve Oxley with his image of brightly coloured tourists in the rain taking joint 1st alongside Dave Rodgers’ image of a street through a rainy window.

A good month for the newer members of the club with Steve Oxley taking first place with his evocative image of a horse drawn carriage in the rain. This was Steve’s second competiton at the club (he also won his first competition and was joint first in the colour street photography competition) so he’s definitely someone to watch!

Second place went to Steve Murphy. His image was of a lonely bike in an alley. Steve M is another newer member who’s doing very well in the monthly competitions!

Third place was taken by club chair Jill Davis who currently leads the photographer of the year competition. Jill’s image was of shop owner taking a break.

Congratulations to new member Steve Oxley who entered his first competition at the club this month and took home a well deserved first place with his photo of a model with intricate make-up.

Steve also won the AGW Trophy as the total score for his two images beat everyone else’s total scores. Congratulations Steve!

Marie Rollitt took second place with an amazingly sharp image of a kingfisher.

Third place was shared between Mike Gibbon’s picture of a pair of puffins and Pam Fisher’s panarama of the River Thames.

This was a very good month for Nick Wheat, with his train images taking first place in both the monochrome and colour interiors  print competitions!

It was also a good month for Steve Murphy who took second and third in the colur competition with his images of rooms from yesteryear.
